Social value as life satisfaction

Demonstrate your impact on participants' life satisfaction

WELLBY (Well-being Adjusted Life Years) reports are powerful tools for organisations aiming to measure and showcase the social value of their interventions.

WELLBYs can be used to correlate social changes, such as reduced anxiety and loneliness or improved self-esteem, in order to be able to understand how each of these changes impact the individuals' overall life satisfaction.

By utilizing WELLBYs, organisations can quantify changes in life satisfaction in a manner that is both scientifically rigorous and deeply meaningful to stakeholders, while enabling them to optimise interventions to maximise the impact on people.

Wellbeing as changes in life satisfaction

Impactly employs the "Subjective Wellbeing Valuation" method, where the effects of social interventions are quantified in WELLBYs (Well-being Adjusted Life Years). One WELLBY represents a one-point change in life satisfaction for one person over one year. This approach allows us to correlate the impact of various factors, such as reduced anxiety and stress, or enhanced self-esteem, to the individual's overall life satisfaction.

Based on years of international research

Life satisfaction is assessed using a straightforward question: "Overall, how satisfied are you with your life at the moment?" Respondents answer on a scale from 0 (not at all satisfied) to 10 (completely satisfied). This method, also used by the OECD, is easy to implement and interpret, while providing reliable data for analysis. Its simplicity ensures high response rates and clear insights into participants' wellbeing.
Calculate Social Return on Investment

Document the impact on life satisfaction

By measuring life satisfaction alongside other wellbeing indicators, such as self-esteem or stress, we can calculate how these factors correlate with overall life satisfaction. This correlation enables organisations to evaluate, improve, and prioritize social initiatives that generate the most significant social value for participants. The resulting WELLBY reports offer a robust framework for understanding and enhancing the impact of social programs on wellbeing.
